On Wednesday, October 8, Allison Fitzpatrick (Partner, Advertising + Marketing) and Gary Kibel (Partner, Privacy, Technology + Data Security) will join a panel discussion titled “Children’s Privacy Update: Different States-Different Standards.”
Session Overview
Years ago, complying with privacy obligations for children was fairly simple — comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Today, however, the landscape has shifted dramatically. States across the country are rapidly enacting new laws aimed at protecting children online — focusing on the use of personal data, targeted advertising, and the growing role of AI in collecting, processing, and interacting with children’s information. Beyond data privacy, many of these laws also seek to address broader concerns around a child’s physical and mental well-being in a digital-first world.
Now with a multitude of passed and pending state laws on the issue, there are different standards from state to state. This evolving patchwork of state laws makes compliance increasingly complex for businesses.
The panel will explore the latest laws, standards, and disconnects in this ever-complicated environment as well as key trends, emerging standards, and the challenges posed by inconsistent regulations — offering practical insights to help organizations.
This webinar will include:
- An overview of the legal and compliance landscape related to the collection, use, and retention of children’s data
- A discussion between industry leaders of specific use cases and strategic considerations for addressing these challenges over the next 12 months
- A question-and-answer session with panelists to dive deeper into the topic
