Generative Artificial Intelligence and Professional Ethics

Tuesday, January 14, from 9:30 – 10:20 am (ET)

On Tuesday, January 14, Brooke Erdos Singer (Partner, Intellectual Property + Media) will moderate a panel titled “Generative Artificial Intelligence and Professional Ethics.”

Professor Roy Simon will cover the impact of the Rules of Professional Conduct (and other authorities) on a lawyer’s use of generative artificial intelligence (“GAI”). He will discuss issues such as (i) confidentiality and GAI, (ii) the duty to supervise others using GAI tools, (iii) whether a lawyer must notify clients and courts when using GAI, and (iv) whether using GAI affects legal fees. Professor Simon will also briefly review the growing body of ethics opinions, court rules, cases, and task force reports about the ethical use of GAI.
