Sharon Cohen, Davis+Gilbert Labor + Employment associate, will speak at an HR-PRO seminar titled “Recordkeeping and Understanding the Fair Labor Standards Act” on May 10. HR-PRO is a pro-bono program out of NYC-SHRM to which Davis+Gilbert has provided pro-bono services. HR-PRO works with member agencies of FPWA and provides seminars and HR volunteer consultants to these FPWA members.
Session Overview
Did you know that you need to keep job applications/resumes for non-hired applicants in NYS for a certain amount of time? What do I keep, when do I keep it, how long do I keep it, where should I keep it, and why do I have to?! What can I keep digitally and do e-signatures count? Record keeping may not be the most exciting part of HR, but essential to compliance. Another thing that stumps the best of us is understanding the whole Exempt vs Non-Exempt thing, why can’t my administrative assistant be salaried or can they? Learn the difference between the various exemptions and some of the biggest mistakes we make with the Fair Labor Standards Act and what the penalties could be.
