The Hill | Cruz, Cantwell Seek to Get Their College Sports Bill Over the Goal Line

As debate continues over the Protect College Sports Act, Davis+Gilbert Partner Jim Johnston recently spoke with The Hill about the challenges that could determine whether the legislation moves forward.

The proposed Act would establish a federal framework for college athletics, but despite recent support from major conferences, policy and political considerations continue to complicate its path forward.

Reflecting on the role timing may play in the bill’s future, Jim observed: “If it’s going to happen, it needs to be in September because the closer we get to November, people are going to start thinking about what the math looks like in a new Congress.”

Whether recent momentum is enough to overcome the competing interests surrounding the proposal will be a key development to watch as the future of college sports regulation continues to take shape.
