Overview
Gia Wakil is a dealmaker who helps technology companies and creative agencies facilitate productive partnerships and customer relationships. Her pragmatic solutions overcome challenges that arise in technology transactions and advertising, brand management and intellectual property (IP) matters. As an integrated member of the team, Gia operates as outside general counsel to build consensus with key stakeholders and close deals swiftly.
In deals of all stripes, from large-scale partnerships and technology-focused M&A transactions to more routine service provider relationships, Gia partners with clients to chart a path forward. She regularly negotiates and closes technology-related and commercial services agreements, overcoming blockers to drive growth and achieve strategic objectives.
Gia also handles advertising and compliance matters involving state and federal law, from preparing 50-state ad law surveys to counseling on intricate aspects of the Copyright Act. She provides advice on trademark, copyright and right of publicity issues, offering thoughtful strategies to preserve creativity while mitigating risk.
Before she joined Davis+Gilbert, Gia was an associate in Baker McKenzie’s Intellectual Property & Technology group. She draws on prior experience handling high-stakes IP litigation to help companies with valuable IP assets protect, commercialize and optimize their portfolios.
Representative Experience
Advising a global animal health company on privacy and technology issues in connection with its vendor relationships, including providers of software and SaaS products, technology development, media, advertising, training, recruiting and other services.
Currently on part-time secondment at a publicly traded software company, focusing on negotiating agreements with customers and channel partners for the use of its SaaS and data center offerings.
- Acted as commercial counsel to a fast-growing corporate gifting platform, where chief responsibilities included drafting and negotiating customer and retailer agreements. Authored a playbook to streamline the negotiation process, facilitating more efficient scaling of retailer relationships.
