The Federal Trade Commission unanimously approved amendments to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule on Jan. 16. However, Commissioner Ferguson expressed concerns about the updated rule, citing several significant issues and calling on the new administration to address them.
Davis+Gilbert partner Allison Fitzpatrick was quoted in a recent Law360 article discussing the recent COPPA amendments and the possibility of future developments. Allison states that “it remains to be seen whether the FTC’s final COPPA rule is actually ‘final’ or whether we will see changes to address Commissioner Ferguson’s concerns, such as with the new requirement that information retained online should not be retained indefinitely.”
