Law.com | FTC Making It Tougher for Online Sites to Share Children’s Info

Companies using behavioral advertising may have to alter their default settings in light of the FTC’s proposed changes to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA). One of the proposed changes to COPPA focuses on parental consent, requiring that online operators must obtain separate verifiable parental consent to disclose a child’s information to third parties.

Allison Fitzpatrick provided her thoughts on the proposed changes in the Law.com article, “FTC Making It Tougher for Online Sites to Share Children’s Info”. Allison discusses how the changes to parental consent may affect COPPA-covered companies – including being particularly diligent in ensuring child data isn’t inappropriately shared with third parties.
