Davis+Gilbert announced today that Jay Geiger has joined the firm as a tax partner in its Corporate + Transactions practice. Geiger, who was counsel at Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, advises clients on a comprehensive range of general and transactional tax issues related to domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, spinoffs, joint ventures, financings and more.
“A strong corporate practice requires attorneys with the highest level of sophistication and knowledge in tax law given the complexity of tax issues that emerge and permeate through nearly every practice area at the firm,” said Curt Myers, chairman of Davis+Gilbert and co-chair of the firm’s Corporate + Transactions practice group. “Jay is a 20+ year practitioner with an enormous amount of experience in both public and private M&A, representing both buyers and sellers in a litany of transactions domestically and internationally. He will undoubtedly enhance the tax capabilities within the firm’s growing Corporate + Transactions practice.”
Previously Geiger served as a managing director in the mergers and acquisitions tax practice at KPMG and as counsel in the tax practice at Cahill Gordon & Reindel. Geiger began his career as an attorney-advisor to the Hon. Arthur L. Nims, III of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C.
“I am thrilled to become a part of Davis+Gilbert’s esteemed corporate practice and leverage my wide-ranging transactional experience to provide the sound tax counsel our clients deserve,” said Geiger. “It’s exciting to join the firm at a time of current and anticipated tax law shifts both domestically and internationally, as well as to have the opportunity to work with such a dynamic group of attorneys.”
Geiger received his B.A. in American Studies and Spanish Literature from Cornell University, his J.D. from Hofstra University School of Law, and his LL.M in Taxation from the New York University School of Law.
