Promising law students who want a close-up look at legal practice in a major firm find it in our highly selective 1L Summer Program. Alumni have called it an invaluable step in preparing them to succeed in their 2L summer internships and eventual careers.
Throughout your time with us, you’ll get diverse practice experience along with advice, support and pointers from a personal mentor. In midsummer and at the end of the program, you’ll receive formal evaluations that will give you a road map for the future.
“Working at Davis+Gilbert has been one of the best summers of my life. Not only was it an incredible work and learning experience, but I have also made great mentors and friends with whom I plan to keep in touch with for the rest of my life.”
— Isabel Feuer, 2022 Summer Associate (NYU Law School)
Why Davis+Gilbert
Summer associates receive meaningful assignments and work closely with the firm’s lawyers at every level — from young associates to senior partners. There are no insignificant tasks here; your research, writing and ideas are critically important to real clients.
In addition to client engagements, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference and gain more hands-on experience through pro bono projects. Recent 1L pro bono projects included drafting COVID-19 protocols for a day camp at the Sangha Education Center and drafting briefs for immigration-related appeals for the Safe Passage Project.
“By working on a wide variety of matters through the summer associate program at Davis+Gilbert, I discovered new areas of interest and developed skills that will set me apart as I start my career. The office environment is uniquely friendly, and everyone is eager to answer questions and share their professional experiences. As a result of the emphasis on both formal and informal mentorship, I now have a support system of attorneys who will serve as my trusted advisors going forward.”
— Julia Heckelman, 2022 Summer Associate (Columbia Law School)
