Davis & Gilbert Recognized as a Leading Firm for Advertising & Marketing and Data Protection & Privacy by Legal 500

New York, June 4, 2012 – For the sixth consecutive year, Davis & Gilbert garnered a Tier 1 ranking in the 2012 edition of The Legal 500 United States in the category Media, Technology and Telecoms: Marketing and Advertising. In addition, the firm was recognized for the first time in the category Media, Technology and Telecoms: Technology: Data Protection and Privacy, earning a Tier 3 ranking.

Marketing and Advertising
The guide recognized Davis & Gilbert for both its advertising counseling and transactional work, as well as for IP and advertising-related litigation, particularly false advertising cases and cases of first impression involving internet advertising and pre-sale promotional trademark use. Clients distinguished Davis & Gilbert as “the best firm in the advertising agency world” and highlighted its leading reputation as a “trusted advisor” to global brands, leading advertising agencies and industry trade associations and self-regulatory bodies.

Ronald R. Urbach, Chairman and Co-Chair of the Advertising, Marketing & Promotions Practice Group, maintained his position as a “leading lawyer,” and four other transactional attorneys in the practice were recommended. Clients regard Mr. Urbach as “the best attorney in the field,” while praising his “invaluable” advice and recommending him for “dealing with complex issues.” His work on advertising and promotional campaigns associated with the Chevrolet Volt launch on behalf of agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners was cited. In addition, entertainment attorney James Johnston was described as “calming and helpful in difficult situations,” and Joseph Lewczak was applauded for his “knowledgeable, practical approach.” Howard Weingrad, described as “astute, well-liked and business-focused,” was recommended for talent issues, and Richard Eisert was recognized as a “strong generalist.”

In addition, the guide highlighted two of the firm’s IP litigation partners and their work on leading edge cases relating to advertising and marketing law. IP litigation partner Marc Rachman was commended for his work on a copyright infringement action for American Express, and “strong litigator” Guy Cohen was praised for defending BBDO Worldwide against claims by musician Levon Helm.

Technology: Data Protection and Privacy
Davis & Gilbert has a long history of advising clients in the ever-evolving area of privacy and data security, and the firm’s expertise advising on key issues such as online behavioral advertising and tracking technologies was emphasized in this year’s guide. Richard Eisert was noted for his strength in “identifying subtle but decisive nuances.”  His work advising publishers, agencies, advertisers and ISPs on FTC issues, among other areas, was highlighted. Gary Kibel, described by clients as “brilliant, responsive, [and] thorough,” was also noted for advising leading media research firm Kantar Media.
