The Holmes Report's Independent PR Firm Forum
October 26, 2015

Davis & Gilbert is a proud sponsor of the Holmes Report's Independent PR Firm Forum taking place at The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort in Miami Beach, FL.

Brad J. Schwartzberg, Co-Chair of the Corporate Practice Group and Michael C. Lasky, Public Relations Law Chair and Litigation Practice Group Co-Chair, will moderate a panel session titled "Financial and Legal Strategies to Hire, Retain and Acquire Key Talent" featuring:

Barrie Brien, Group Chief Executive, Creston plc
Claudia Patton, Global Chief Talent Officer, Edelman
David Ross, SVP, Corporate Development, MDC Partners
Jim Weiss, Founder, Chairman & CEO, W20 Group
Holly Zheng, CEO & President, BlueFocus International

The session will be kicked off by announcing the results of a research study jointly conducted by the Holmes Report and Davis & Gilbert. The study, which targeted agency CEOs, COOs and CFOs from around the world, provides data on how PR firms are attracting and retaining their most critical talent, including the use of equity and equity alternatives as part of long term incentive arrangements in a changing industry.

Session Overview
In today's changing PR profession -- particularly as Gen Xers and Millennials enter positions of executive responsibility -- and skill sets in the areas of digital, content creation, measurement, and business development are proving harder to come by -- many PR firms are successfully moving away from traditional compensation models by deploying both "deferred" and "equity" based compensation alternatives in order to attract and retain the best talent. These firms have found a powerful, proven lure: A piece of the rock -- equity or "phantom equity" as well as long term incentive plans not only attract the best talent, but will also get everyone "rowing" in the same direction.

Attendees will learn "first-hand" from a panel of seasoned professionals, various financial and structural alternatives being deployed across the industry to successfully attract and retain top talent. The program will examine various compensation models designed to drive the results you are looking for -- whether that may be promoting "homegrown" talent, hiring seasoned executives, or utilizing an "acqui-hire" to identify and secure future talent through a strategic acquisition. The panel will also address the advantages and disadvantages of offering equity and phantom equity to your top performers and guide you through the practical steps necessary to implement such a program.
