Cyber Security: Mitigating Social Media Risk in the Digital Age
June 3, 2015

The use of social media marketing is exploding — expected to reach almost a quarter of overall marketing budgets in the next five years. But, it doesn’t always get the legal and risk mitigation attention it deserves. What may seem like a harmless Facebook post or Tweet by an employee could actually include content that could put a company in a dangerous position.

Davis & Gilbert and Aon Risk Solutions present an in-depth breakfast seminar on how companies that utilize social media as part of their marketing strategy, particularly those in the retail, fashion, consumer goods, and media industries, can help reduce their risk to ensure legal compliance. Insurance and legal professionals with extensive experience in this area will address key issues including:

  • Implementing appropriate social media policies, procedures and training for employees, social media influencers and spokespersons
  • Ensuring appropriate agreements and forms are in place
  • Applying business and legal review processes to ensure that all materials are evaluated for compliance before dissemination
  • Monitoring social media posts made on the company’s behalf, and ensuring that the teams in place have the necessary tools to do so, including regular social media audits
  • Applying appropriate risk transfer solutions surrounding social media
  • Understanding what underwriters are looking for when evaluating social media risks
