Structuring a Compliant Marketing Campaign to Children:
Practical Tips and Guidance for Preventing Legal Missteps

Davis & Gilbert and the Children’s Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus present an in-depth seminar on how food and beverage marketers can structure compliant marketing campaigns directed to children.

With continued attention and enforcement efforts geared towards marketing to children, it is in a marketer’s best interest to promote healthy choices without crossing the line into deceptive or irresponsible marketing. In addition, it is important for marketers and their agencies to understand the legal landscape, including the potential risks of regulatory and self-regulatory action.

This seminar will cover the current trends and best practices on marketing to children. Specifically, this seminar will address:

  • The types of claims that may result in government action
  • How compliance with the Children’s Advertising Review Unit’s Self-Regulatory Guidelines (CARU Guidelines) can help marketers avoid government action
  • Which CARU Guidelines impact marketers and what to do to avoid running afoul of the Guidelines
  • Practical tips on how to avoid and/or respond to a CARU enforcement action
  • What the Children’s Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative (CFBAI) is, and how recent changes to the CFBAI’s pledges impact agencies and their clients
