Social Media Society: The Power and Pitfalls of Using Social Media in Business: Rules of the E-Road

Jessica Golden Cortes, Labor & Employment Associate, will be the featured speaker at a Social Media Society breakfast on June 28 at the Art Director's Club in Manhattan.  She will speak about the legal impact of social media in the workplace and best practices for controlling associated risks.  Some of the issues she will discuss include:

  • FTC Guidelines governing online reviews and endorsements, including recent FTC actions that have particularly focused on agencies' and advertisers' use of social media and online marketing
  • Best practices related to agency and advertiser monitoring of the activities of talent, spokespersons, affiliate marketers, bloggers, and other vendors
  • Employer searches of social networking sites as part of the hiring process
  • Current and former employee use of social media inside and outside of the workplace
  • Recent cases addressing employer monitoring of employee online activities
