Joseph J. Lewczak, Davis & Gilbert Advertising, Marketing & Promotions Partner, will moderate a session titled, "Delivered Straight from the Source:  Examining the Latest Regulatory and Legal Framework for Addressing Emerging Media Forms," during the CARU Annual Conference 2009 on October 7 at the W New York Hotel, 541 Lexington Ave.  This session will take place from 1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Mr. Lewczak will moderate a panel that will address and discuss the latest regulatory and enforcement developments impacting children's advertising and marketing from the FTC and the FCC, and will also touch on new developments relating to the EU Privacy Directive.

In particular, the panel will examine and discuss:

  • The FTC's view of marketing to children on social networking sites including Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter and through the use of mobile devices
  • How the revised Endorsement Guides will impact the use of children for word of mouth and viral marketing
  • The use of behavioral advertising in targeting children; the FCC's recent rulemaking proposal on embedded advertising and its interaction with the Children's Television Programming Act
  • The FCC's new drive to "expand" its jurisdiction to online, video games, and other media.

At this conference, expert panelists will consider challenging issues presently facing the Children's Advertising Industry, focusing on how the digital age has changed the way companies market their products to children.
