Welfare Plans

The amount of regulation relating to welfare benefit plans has exploded in recent years. Recently, we have seen the enactment of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Mental Health Parity Act and the Newborns' and Mothers' Health Protection Act, just to name a few. Add these laws to the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), ERISA and the cafeteria plan rules, and you have the potential for significant non-compliance issues and liability. We have the expertise and experience to guide our clients through these rules and provide counsel on all other aspects of welfare benefit plans. We also establish funding arrangements for welfare plans, such as Voluntary Employees' Beneficiary Associations (VEBAs), and address issues relating to multiple employer welfare arrangements.
